A Generative Art Salon and Auction

Miami Art Week 2021
Dec. 3–5, 2021

The exhibition has been made possible through the generous support of Art Blocks and MoonPay with considerate contribution from Bacardi, Upshot, 6529, Cyber, Fingerprints DAO, Starry Night Capital, and AC Collection.

Over the last two years, a latent art movement began to flourish online dedicated to algorithmically-generated artwork on the blockchain. Commonly referred to as on-chain generative art, the movement has given birth to a thriving ecosystem transforming the way both artists and collectors engage with visual aesthetics online.

As conventions evolve, criticism and questions naturally emerge: Can a computer program really be considered a work of art? And, if so, how does our relationship with a digitally native artwork change when experienced offline.

Curated by Sofia Garcia and Kate Hannah, The Digital explores these questions by presenting a series of art prints, digital frames, and projections of algorithmic art. Rather than reflect traditional mediums, the art is constructed from intangible inputs in lieu of tangible matter. Every piece is made up of lines of code and lives on the Ethereum blockchain.

By bringing NFTs into our physical world, the exhibition contextualizes on-chain generative art as a formative movement within contemporary culture.
